Snow Day

If you didn't hear, we finally got some snow in Denver. We've somehow escaped it all winter, and, now that it's Spring, we got hit with a blizzard Thursday. I'm over my bitterness of our flight being cancelled, but spent all day Thursday pouting. (Brian and I were going to go away for the weekend. But, we're rescheduling). Some 8 inches of snow later (all in about 10 hours), Brian decided to take a snow day Friday.

Morgan helped shovel the driveway. Wasn't too much help, but she loved helping!

A snow day wouldn't be complete without a visit to Morgan's Hair Salon. She always seems to get Sadie's (non-existent) hair just perfect!

Now, if only Sadie would sit still for her to comb it all!

And, we'd like to introduce you to Frosty, Morgan's Boy Snowman. Today, she came inside and said, "His name Frosty. He's not a 'dirl'. He's not magic. He's melting, so we took his hat and his nose inside. But, we lost his teeth. We can't find them."

I checked, there's no sign that reads, "All food must be consumed on premises." And it's a good thing, because, as we were winding down, Morgan grabbed a couple of napkins and, as she rolled up her goods, said, "I'm going to save these ones for later."

We looked at the half-eaten chocolate and apple muffins, the peaunt butter cookie, and the last bite of the ice cream cone (no ice cream), and thought, "They'll throw it away anyway, and if she's full..."

Then, we both laughed, out loud, wondering where our child came up with such an idea.

All we can figure is Morgan must think that because we usually leave other restaurants with to-go boxes, you're supposed to bring food home everytime you eat out.

So, Morgan proudly walked out of Sweet Tomatoes tonight, excited to save her food for a snack tomorrow. We just so happened to have the camera in the car. And it's a good thing. That's a pretty excited little girl breaking the rules!

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'...

Sadie has officially mastered this skill. I'll leave her in a room and 30 seconds later, hear, thud! I'll go check on her and she'll be all the way across the room, next to the file cabinet, or the wall, or whatever else she happened to hit and then, consequently, stop at.

This is the latest way she sleeps in bed. I guess she's finally too old to swaddle.

And, I guess she's afraid she might roll out of bed, so she hangs on for dear life!

She's still a doll and, we've almost successfully eliminated the binky. I had a few hours of weakness this afternoon, but it didn't matter. She decided not to nap, with our without the binky. So, in a few more days, this sucker's gone! Yay! (Oh, excuse the pun, I didn't even realize it until after I wrote that)

The Park and Kaden's Visit

My friend, Chrissy, would put her two boys in the swing together and they loved it. So, I tried it out with the girls. It's a lot of work swinging 45 lbs, but they had a blast! This is definitely the way to get a work out at the park! And, it sure beats actually swinging myself. How could I have ever thought it was enjoyable as a kid?? As an adult, I lasted about 10 seconds and felt so sick!

Apparently all that swinging just wore Sadie out!

This past week, my best friend, Lauren, was in town for a business trip, and she brought her 4 month old, Kaden, along. I babysat him everyday! Lauren and Travis are spoiled to have such a good baby! Disclaimer: Kaden's cheeks are very deceptive! He seemed like a featherweight compared to Sadie! After his cheeks, he's actually very long and kind of thin (not skinny, but not chunky, like his cheeks would suggset). Judging by the picture, I think Sadie approves of him. Well, either that, or she likes to smile for the camera.

Morgan was in heaven watching her "Baby Tayden". She always made sure he had a toy to play with and a hand to hold. She is turning into quite the responsible big sister.

As of Lately...

"Morgan, can you please bring me a diaper?"

"Which one you want. Elmo? No. Zoe? No. Cookie Monster? Yeah, Sadie want Cookie Monster."

Whenever I ask Morgan to bring a diaper, I rarely get just one. She always seems to go above and beyond...

...but, she's always put them back in the basket, after seriously debating over which one to use next! Oh, and one more cute thing she does with diapers--Sadie has started wearing size 4 diapers at night (I was tired of her peeing out of the size 3 ones). So, Morgan differentiates by calling the size 3's "good morning" diapers and the size 4's "good night" diapers. So, even at 4'o'clcok in the afternoon, when I ask her to get a diaper, she'll ask, "A good morning diaper or a good night diaper?"

I recently stuck Sadie in the bathroom sink to "admire" herself in the mirror. Here she is (7 1/2 months) and below is Morgan at 9 months in the same sink.

Sadie is so excited that she can suck through a straw (it's been a couple of months and she's getting pretty good now) that she will reach for any drink nearby with a straw. Luckily, at our house, that means a water bottle filled with water. I left her alone for a couple of minutes the other day and came back to a sopping wet baby! You'll notive the darker tint on her blanket (the left) and on her legs (by her knees). She had reached for my water bottle and dumped it over trying to suck on the straw! So, I replaced my now empty bottle with her bottle. I was surprised to see her pick it right up! The water bottle was full in this picture! She's a strong little (big) thing!

We had just visited Hammond's Candy Factory here in Denver and Morgan was enjoying a sweet treat she had picked out at the store. If I recall, she picked out a bubblegum flavored candy cane-type thing (I just remember she picked it because it was pink). It was a sticky mess of overly sweet sugar, and Sadie just sat there, watching Morgan enjoy her tasty treat! What a great way to start the month of December!

We've had a busy week! I can't believe all that we've done! Mostly, when I started downloading pictures, I couldn't believe how many I had taken this week! Thank goodness for digital photography! It would have been several rolls of film! Anyway, here are the highlights:


Morgan is experimenting with the art of self-portraits. Here is her "masterpiece".

Being the kind sister she is, Morgan also drew up a portrait of Sadie, free of charge.

I took on the brave task of watching 8 kids on Tuesday! Well, not all by myself. I watched my friend, Stacey's two boys for the day. Then my friend, Tamra, needed a sitter for a couple of hours, so I told her yes, after roping Natalie in with her 2 kids to join the chaos. It actually wasn't that chaotic. Busy, yes, but it could have been WAY worse! All of our "visitors" were very well behaved, which made things go much smoother. This seems to be a daily/weekly picture. Morgan always wants to hold Sadie first thing in the morning. Then, she says, "Mommy, take a picture!" So, I do.

Although it was very windy (that's all you hear in the video), we went to the park on Thursday afternoon, to enjoy our final day of 75+ degree weather we've enjoyed all week! Sadly, the weather turned for the worse today and we're getting rain/snow tomorrow. So, we'll visit the park late next week, hopefully.


Just like we thought Morgan would go to kindergarten laying down (she wouldn't sit forever!), we've been thinking Sadie might never roll over. She caught us ALL off guard Thursday afternoon and surprised us with her new skill. Fortunately/unfortunately, it's not very regular, so she's not anywhere near mobile.

Couldn't miss out on a cute pic of Sadie Bug in her overalls. She's getting so big (well, she's been "big" size wise, go "grown up" is more appropriate, I guess)!!

Sadie's favorite bathtub toy is this comb. It's pretty cute to watch her splash and make waves to move it closer so she can grab it!

I thought this was a fun picture. I happened to get Morgan mid-air, while she danced.

Morgan couldn't pick up Sadie, so she improvised. I thought it was very kind of her to "dance" with her sister.

And, alas, we've introduced Sadie to the chocolate chip cookie. We made some as a family last night and, since she has yet to turn down a food we offer her, I figured she should enjoy a cookie with the rest of us. However, I should have given it to her PRE-bath. Oops. Maybe next time.

Well, that's pretty much our week! It's amazing how busy it actually was, when I looked at the calendar and it was completely blank! I guess we are pretty good at filling up our time!

Naptime???

Sadie seems to think that naps are optional some days. Because the girls share a room and Morgan needs a nap, I try to get Sadie out before she gets too rambunctious. She literally laid on the floor and did this for almost 45 minutes yesterday before finally closing her eyes and "napping" for about 15.
